What To Expect During Your First Online Therapy Session?
Frequently Asked Questions
Online therapy North Carolina isn't a compromise — for the right phase of the work, it's genuinely effective. If you're located anywhere in NC or Virginia and can't make it to my Wake Forest office, virtual follow-up sessions may be a great fit.
-
Honestly? It depends on what you're doing.
For my 6-hour intensive retreats-no. Those need to happen in person at my Wake Forest office. The depth of that work, the nervous system stuff, the Brainspotting and ketamine…you can't replicate that over a screen. I won't try to sell you something that won't land the same way.
But for 50-minute follow-up sessions after an intensive? Virtual works great for a lot of couples. You're already in the work, you know the process, and logging on from your couch is way more doable than driving across the Triangle. That said, some couples love it and some really don't. We figure that out together.
My honest recommendation: start with an in-person intensive. Do the deep work face to face. Then if you need follow-up support and getting to Wake Forest isn't realistic, online becomes a genuinely useful option, not a compromise, just a different tool for a different phase.
-
You need to be a resident of either North Carolina or Virginia, those are the two states I'm licensed in. If you're somewhere else in the US, I'm not able to work with you legally, even online. That's a licensing law thing, not a me thing, and it's frustrating for everyone.
The exception: if you live outside the US, most other countries don't have the same restrictions, so working together internationally is usually fine.
Not sure if your situation qualifies? Just schedule your free consultation call, we'll sort it out quickly.

It depends on what you're looking for.
If you're in or near Wake Forest or Raleigh, come in. My office is at 201 Wait Ave in Wake Forest, and for intensive work, he real, deep stuff- in, person is always going to be better.
But if you found me through a search and you're not close by, don't click away yet. I'm licensed in both North Carolina and Virginia, and I work with clients online for follow-up sessions after an intensive. I also work with couples living abroad. So "near me" is relative, what matters more is whether my approach is the right fit for where you are in your relationship.
Not sure if the distance works? Book a free 30-minute call and let's figure it out together.

I use HIPAA-compliant video platforms, think of them like a secure, encrypted version of FaceTime or Zoom. Your sessions are private and protected. You don't need to download anything fancy or be tech-savvy. If you can do a video call, you can do online therapy with me.
-
No, and I've tried it, so this comes from experience, not assumption. Intensives need to happen in person at my Wake Forest office. The kind of deep, sustained work we do in a 6-hour session just doesn't translate the same way over a screen. I'd rather be upfront about that than have you invest in something that's going to fall flat.
If getting to Wake Forest is a barrier, let's talk on your free consultation call, we can figure out what actually makes sense for your situation.
-
You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.

No

Not much. A device with a camera (phone, tablet, laptop-all fine), a decent wifi connection, and a private space where you can talk without someone walking in on you. I'll send you a secure link before your session, you click it, we connect. That's it.
The one thing I'd push you on: find a genuinely private space. Sitting in your parked car, whispering so your kids don't hear, or half-distracted in a shared room-that's not going to serve you. This work asks something of you. Give it the space it deserves.

Start with a free 30-minute consultation call. We'll talk about what's going on for you, what you're looking for, and whether working together makes sense. No pressure, no commitment. Just a real conversation.
Online Therapy North Carolina Post Covid-19
Covid changed a lot of things, and one of the few upsides is that it normalized doing therapy from home. That's not going away, and honestly, it shouldn't.
Life with kids is busy. Commutes to work and driving kids around all day are real. If getting to an office is the thing standing between you and actually working on your relationship, online therapy removes that excuse entirely. You don't need to be on the same couch, you just need to show up.

A Note About Location
Online therapy throughout North Carolina….but also in Virginia
Because I used to live in Virginia (Centreville, Fairfax, Arlington) a few year ago, I am duly licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. Even though my office is located in Wake Forest, I see clients coming from Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham. This means that if you are a resident of Virginia, I am also able to work with you. You may know this, but mental health practitioners are only allowed to work with clients who reside in the states they are licensed at. I know it does’t make sense and they have been working on changing that law for many years now, but this is unfortunately our reality today as I am writing this in 2023. I get many calls from people watching my youtube videos from other states wanting to work with me. It is important to know I am only allowed to offer my marriage counseling Raleigh NC or individual counseling to you if you reside in the states of North Carolina or Virginia. Most other countries do not have the same law, so I am also able to work with clients living abroad.
