Couples Retreat North Carolina

Helping marriages heal and connect

Couples Retreat NC

You wonder how it is possible to love your partner and be loved so much, and yet both feel so lonely and unheard in your marriage. Some days it feels like you speak two completely different languages. Some of the words really fucking hurt. You know they don't mean them, but you can't stop feeling the pain anymore. It brings you back to childhood memories of feeling rejected and hurt by your parent and makes you move further away from them. You are wondering if you are exaggerating or being wrong about how you interpret the situation sometimes. You know you need to learn better communication and listening skills. You know you need more than traditional weekly marriage counseling that takes months to experience that deep healing you can no longer wait for. YOU NEED A RELIEF NOW.

You are ready for change!

You’ve had friends go to therapy and tell you how life-changing it is. But, when you asked how long it took to start feeling better- they said it took a few months before they got to dig into the nitty-gritty stuff and feel like real change was happening. You wish it was like the movies. Where a couple goes on a weekend retreat and by the end of the weekend they’ve started to make a real, deep change and feel reconnected in a deep, powerful way. You hate the idea of feeling like this for another minute much less another few months!

Why Therapy Intensives Work When Weekly Sessions Aren’t Enough

What if we could make your dream a reality?

My name is Irina and I can teach you and your partner how to break down the barriers from your life experiences so that you can write a new narrative for your family. By unpacking your old childhood wounds and healing from them once and for all, you will connect to your partner in the most authentic loving way. Your marriage will transform from the same old heated arguments that take you nowhere to a marriage full of understanding, compassion, and real connection. And we can make direct, deep change by scheduling a private custom marriage retreat for you and your partner. Let’s cut through months of therapy in a day or two so you can start feeling more connected NOW!

You want a solution that is proven to work!

I use one of the most empirically validated modalities that is based on 30+ years of research called Emotionally Focused Therapy or EFT. In fact, EFT is the ONLY couples therapy recommended by the  American Psychological Association to help improve relationships. I’ll guide you through a series of connection building exercises that will heal your wounds of hurt and betrayal and renew trust and commitment. Once you truly understand the dynamics of your relationship and the underlying emotions, you will be able to find lasting solutions that will keep your relationship strong no matter what challenges you face now or in the future.

It’s important to understand that one EFT intensive retreat is rarely a complete solution. For most couples, real and lasting healing happens through several intensives spaced out over time, with the majority of couples needing around 12 months of deeper work to truly shift long-standing patterns and rebuild emotional connection in a sustainable way.

The intensive format isn’t about a quick fix. It’s about creating powerful breakthroughs in a short amount of focused, uninterrupted time. Spending 6 hours over one day allows us to go far deeper than traditional sessions and help you feel real relief and clarity right away.

From there, follow-up intensives give you the space to keep working through layers of hurt, strengthen new ways of connecting, and make sure the changes actually stick in real life — not just inside the retreat bubble.

Think of EFT intensives as a transformational process rather than a one-time event. Each retreat builds on the last, helping you move from stuck and disconnected to secure, close, and truly partnered again.

How Does Couples Retreat Work?

It’s simple-you turn off your phone, leave your children and the busyness of everyday life to someone else, and focus on what matters most-your relationship.

We either meet at my office, your home (available for a limited number of clients), an airbnb (highly recommend), or virtually through zoom, so that you feel as comfortable as possible. Generally speaking, we meet in 2 (3 hour) chunks of time. Most couples prefer 3 hours in the morning (the first hour we are together and we look at your relationship history, the next two hours are individual sessions), 1 hour lunch break, and then 3 hours (together with breaks) in the afternoon.

If you are doing a 2 day intensive, the next day we will start with a two hour block in the morning, have one to two hour break for lunch, and then have a two hour block in the afternoon. At the end of the second day, we’ll spend time reviewing what we did and talking about next steps.

Whether we meet in person or online- I can provide suggestions of staycations or retreat spots and date ideas to up-level your intensive experience. Each intensive is customized based on your needs as a couple.

How Will I know If Couples Retreat Will Work For Me?

Marriage Intensives may be a suitable choice if:

  1. You're facing a crisis, but both partners are committed to working through it.

  2. You find yourselves trapped in a negative cycle of conflict that seems unbreakable.

  3. You sense emotional distance in your relationship, resembling roommates, and desire reconnection.

  4. Your demanding schedules or childcare responsibilities make weekly counseling impractical.

  5. You're a current client looking to delve deeply into healing from a past betrayal.

Who is NOT a good Fit for Couples Retreat?

  1. Couples who are engaged in an active and ongoing physical violence.

  2. Couples who are actively addicted to something.

  3. Couples who are engaged in an active and ongoing affair that has not ended yet.

  4. Both partners do not share the same therapeutic goal for the marriage. In other words, if one partner wishes to repair the relationship while the other does not, an intensive format may not be conducive to making that decision. Marriage Intensives work best when both partners are aligned in their goals.

  5. You want fast, surface-level advice.

  6. You're only here because of the kids

  7. Your current schedule or season of life does not realistically allow you to commit to once a month 1 day (6 hours a day) intensive sessions over the course of approximately 12 months (this work is designed as a structured, ongoing process to get you the best results)

Will I Need Follow Up Work After The Couples Retreat North Carolina?

Yes. Follow-up work is essential for sustaining the progress you make during the retreat. The intensive creates a safe, focused space where you can experience real connection and breakthroughs, but real life doesn’t pause. Once you’re back home, old negative patterns and interaction cycles can easily creep back in, which can feel devastating after such a powerful, transformative experience.

Most couples benefit from monthly full day follow-up intensives over the course of about 12 months. These sessions help you practice what you learned, deepen connection, and navigate the inevitable challenges that arise. The exact amount of follow-up work varies depending on your situation. Some couples arrive already partially de-escalated and may need less support, while others who are barely holding on may need more intensive sessions.

Do you offer any other types of Retreats?

Yes! In addition to my signature EFT couples intensives, I also offer specialized retreats that focus on deep personal healing and transformation. These are perfect if you’re looking to dive into yourself, process past trauma, or reset your nervous system in a safe and supportive environment

Brainspotting Retreat

Brainspotting is a powerful, body-based therapy that helps you access and release stored trauma that talk therapy alone can’t reach.

In a retreat setting, we create a focused, intensive space to work through unresolved emotional blocks, leaving you feeling lighter, more present, and able to connect more fully with yourself and others.

These retreats are ideal if you’re ready to process deep emotions that have been holding you back.

Instead of just talking about the past, your nervous system finally gets the chance to complete what it never had the space to process. Many people are surprised by how quickly their body begins to settle and how much clarity and relief can emerge from this deeper work.

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Retreat/KAP

KAP is designed to provide a safe, guided, and transformative experience using ketamine in a therapeutic setting.

These retreats combine the benefits of ketamine with intensive therapy to help you process emotions, release trauma, and shift long-standing patterns.

Clients often leave with a sense of clarity, emotional freedom, and renewed energy.

It’s not just a momentary experience, it can shift the way you relate to yourself and others long-term.

“I cannot recommend Irina enough! Her virtual therapy option during the pandemic has saved my marriage.

-Married 4 years

“Irina has been an absolute blessing in our lives. With her compassionate approach, she has not only helped to save our marriage but also guided us towards a future filled with love, understanding, and anticipation. We are now proud parents-to-be, expecting twins, and we owe a great portion of our unity to Irina's expertise. From our very first session, Irina made it a priority to ensure that both my husband and I felt heard and understood. Her genuine nature and empathetic demeanor created a safe space for us to express our deepest fears, frustrations, and desires. Irina's ability to connect with us on an emotional level fostered a sense of trust that was vital for the healing process.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Irina's approach is her authenticity.
She never hesitated to challenge us when necessary, encouraging us to confront uncomfortable truths and address unresolved issues. Her guidance extended beyond mere words, as she provided practical recommendations for activities and work that would help us rebuild our connection. We followed her suggestions, and even months later, we continue to reap the benefits.

What truly sets Irina apart is her genuine passion for counseling. It is evident that she isn't driven by financial gain but rather by a sincere desire to help couples find happiness and harmony. Irina consistently demonstrated that she had our best interests at heart, and she never hesitated to let us know when she believed we were ready to graduate from therapy or when she felt we needed more work. This level of transparency and honesty allowed us to trust her deeply.

If you find yourself in need of a marriage therapist who leads with compassion, authenticity, and true dedication to her craft, we wholeheartedly recommend Irina.

“Irina is an empathic and caring therapist. She works incredibly hard to come alongside her clients to understand their experiences. With couples, she brings understanding to their negative patterns of interactions that create disconnection and helps them to create new options amidst these patterns. She is direct and transparent about her clinical work and creates a safe space to go into difficult and painful spots with the purpose of repairing hurts and building reconnection in couples. Irina is warm, interactive and direct in her style and overall is a wonderful clinician.”

Marriage intensives offer several cost-effective advantages compared to traditional weekly counseling sessions:

Efficient Use of Time: Marriage intensives typically skip the initial "catching up" phase that can consume valuable time in weekly counseling sessions. This means that from the very beginning of the intensive, you can dive right into addressing the core issues in your relationship. This efficient use of time can lead to quicker progress in therapy.

Accelerated Progress: Marriage intensives provide an opportunity to go deeper into the issues and challenges within the relationship in a concentrated timeframe. The extended duration of intensive sessions allows for a more thorough exploration of issues and faster progress in therapy. Couples can work through multiple topics and exercises in a shorter period, potentially reducing the overall number of sessions required.

Reduced Overall Costs: Because of the efficiency and accelerated progress, couples often find that they require fewer total hours of therapy when opting for a marriage intensive compared to weekly counseling. This can translate to cost savings, as you may need fewer sessions overall.

Minimized Travel and Scheduling Costs: For couples with busy schedules or those who live at a distance from their therapist, the condensed nature of marriage intensives can reduce travel and scheduling costs. Instead of committing to weekly or bi-weekly appointments, you can plan for a shorter, concentrated period of therapy.

A couples retreat isn't just a weekend away-it's a turning point.

In just one intensive day together, you can experience more progress than months of traditional weekly therapy. Here's what becomes possible:

You'll feel closer and more connected. Not just in the room, but in the weeks and months that follow because you'll understand why you keep getting stuck, not just that you do.

You'll finally make sense of your cycle. The arguments that seem to be about dishes, schedules, or tone? They're rarely about those things. You'll uncover what's actually driving the distance between you, and learn how to interrupt it before it takes over.

You'll slow down the moments that escalate. Instead of reacting on autopilot, you'll have real tools to pause, recognize what's happening inside you, and choose a different response.

You'll be heard, maybe for the first time in a long time. The emotions underneath anger, withdrawal, and defensiveness will finally have a place to land. Your partner will see you differently. You'll see them differently, too.

You'll repair what's been broken. Old hurts don't have to define your relationship. You'll leave with a shared roadmap, not just hope, but an actual plan for what comes next.
